Nanzenji Kyo-machiya: Timeless Design (Kyoto-city 2024)

Under the supervision of Alex Kerr, our company undertook the full renovation and modernization of this traditional two-story Kyo-machiya. Located in the historic Nanzenji area, our aim was to preserve the building’s original character while adapting it into a refined residence for modern life.

A major highlight of the project is the kitchen, which features a custom-made copper sink designed by the client. This is complemented by a kitchen table crafted from a single, solid piece of wood. Throughout the renovation, we focused on blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary comfort. By honoring the building's historical roots and "good old" charm, we created a living space that celebrates Kyoto’s architectural culture while meeting the needs of a modern lifestyle.
