The Asahi House (Main Building): A Thatched-Roof Home in the Countryside (Kameoka, 2025)

Our company oversaw the renovation of this small, late-Edo period thatched farmhouse, located in the rural landscape of Kameoka, Kyoto. Supervised by our designer and construction manager, Felix Krienke, and following the philosophy of Alex Kerr, the project redefines the minimalism and "simple beauty" inherent in traditional Japanese farmhouses.

今回のプロジェクトの特徴は、オーナー様自らが弊社の監修下で、弊社のスタッフと共に多くの作業に携わったDIYの要素を取り入れた点です。建物の個性を守るため、
A unique aspect of this project was the collaborative DIY approach; the owner performed much of the work alongside our team under our supervision. To stay true to the building's character, many of the original late-Edo earthen walls and blackened beams were left untouched.

One of the highlights is the addition of a fireplace and sofa, which create a cozy atmosphere that contrasts with the traditional Japanese rooms. By preserving the historic thatched roof while integrating modern comforts, we have created a home that connects the richness of country living with the needs of the next generation.
